Deep Dive into the Net👾: Transmission Cyberpunk 2077 All Explained
For the first time in Cyberpunk 2077, we get to see what the Net is like. The main job “Transmission” takes you to the deep layer of the Net to discover Johnny Silverhand’s past and to find Alt Cunningham. This post will walk you through the job and go through the choices you can make, with detailed fun facts for you to explore! 🤩
Transmission Cyberpunk 2077 walkthrough
The mission starts with talking to Brigitte and asking her to help remove the Relic. Brigitte will request that you dive into the net and use the Relic to find out Alt Cunningham‘s whereabouts. This will eventually turn out to be of favor to V as well, as Cunningham basically invented the very prototype of Soulkiller. Arasaka developed the Relic based on the Soulkiller algorithm, according to the shard given by Hellman.

The job consists of two parts: Never Fade Away and The Blackwall.
Never Fade Away
This part of the mission tells the story of Johnny and Cunningham, at least partially. Johnny’s memory will take you to the backstage room after one of the performances where he and Cunningham had a “romantic” moment. But the date did not end up well. The fight started and Cunningham headed out with Johnny, only to be kidnapped by Arasaka.
After recovering from the stab, Johnny set out to rescue Cunningham with Rogue, Lyle Thompson (a media), and Santiago. However, they arrived at a bad time, but none of them realized that. Cunningham managed to escape from the Net and only needed a bit more time to reunite with her physical body. Yet at this moment, Johnny unplugged her from the Netrunner chair not knowing that this would kill her physical body permanently. After that, part of Cunningham has been existing outside the Blackwall as an AI. The psyche of Cunningham keeps this image of her from turning into a completely rogue AI.
The story doesn’t depict Johnny in a positive light, if not as an egotistic bastard. Johnny doesn’t know Cunningham so well as his girlfriend, since he doesn’t even know that she is one of the best netrunners in town. He also insisted that she got kidnapped solely because of him. The information from Thompson is like a bucket of cold water. He is a friend knowing Cunningham well and is aware of her recent safety concern as well.
Never Fade Away is a title that perfectly captures Alt Cunningham’s situation and her forever existence in Johnny’s heart.

The Blackwall
After getting hold of Johnny’s memory, Brigitte requires V to go beyond the Blackwall alone… (This is the second time V is used by Voodoo Boys after the I Walk The Line job.)
- If you choose to side with Placide in I Walk The Line, Cunningham will let Brigitte and her netrunners walk out of the Net safely.
- If you choose to side with Bryce Mosley in I Walk The Line, Cunningham will detect the tracking chip placed in you by Mosley and kill Brigitte and her netrunners. You will need to kill Placide and other VDBs on your way out of the Chapel.
Cunningham appears to be more like an AI than a person behind the Blackwall. But even as an AI, she doesn’t forgive Johnny for the way he treated her. It turns out that she agrees to help, but not without the help of some more advanced technology, Mikoshi. Cunningham also establishes the connection with V so that you can contact her after getting access to Mikoshi. (This will connect the storyline to Hanako Arasaka.) Her plan is to remove what’s left of V to an engram and move it back to V’s body, in which process V will literally be killed and survive on the engram.
The job ends with exiting the Chapel, and finally, some sunshine and fresh wind after the depressing and dark environment on the Net!🥳

Brigitte’s secret agenda about Alt Cunningham
Brigitte is a great netrunner herself in the game. She believes that the Blackwall will crumble one day and the rogue AI will dominate the Net. That’s why she’s been leading other netrunners in VDBs trying to find a safe passage beyond the Blackwall. So when the moment comes, VDBs will have some advantage on the Net.
In this job, she tries to use V to get to Alt Cunningham who is an AI but with parts of the human psyche in her. With Alt Cunningham’s help, VDBs can stand a chance of survival and even gain some advantage after the Blackwall is down. You can say that she doesn’t care if V can survive the Relic at all. All she wants is the information that Johnny has in the Relic.

Keep yourself updated about the news!
WNS news will report Johnny’s attack at the Arasaka Tower. If you take notice of the news in the elevator or some news reporter on the street, you will find that their reports align with your story progress.

Bickering like a couple with Johnny
The fun moment of this job is to chill with Johnny after leaving the Chapel. As the main storyline proceeds, V and Johnny will get to like each other more and more. The jokes between V and Johnny are invaluable assets in the gameplay. When V coughs vehemently, the dialogue goes like this:
“That the chip?” — Johnny
“Third trimester cramping” — V
“Ha ha.” — Johnny

FAQs
What did Brigitte want from Alt?
Brigitte believes that Alt holds the key to survive in the Net after the Blackwall crumbles down. Brigitte is trying to find a way to coexist and cooperate with the rogue AI outside the Blackwall, and Alt is her first obtainable goal. Why? Because Alt still has parts of her human awareness inside to keep her from turning into a wild and rogue AI completely.
How to trigger Transmission Cyberpunk?
After finishing I Walk The Line main quest, you can go back and tell Brigitte that you accept the deal. This will kick start the Transmission main quest.
Conclusion:
The choice of siding with VDBs or the NetWatch doesn’t have any major impact on how the Transmission story will go in Cyberpunk 2077. It all depends on whether you prefer to have VDBs or Bryce Mosley to live. The job takes you to the past and sets a contrast of Johnny in the past and in the present. Johnny certainly becomes a more mature and lovable character compared to what he’s like in the past.
