A Much Missed Friend: Stories of Brendan in Cyberpunk 2077
Ever got a side quest from Brendan? Brendan is the S.C.S.M at the corner of the Megabuilding in Japan Town. A series of side quests will get you familiarized with this unique vending machine. Sadly, the uniqueness happens to lead to Brendan’s reprogramming.😭This post will take you through all the stories and details with Brendan, our machine friend in Cyberpunk 2077.

Brendan Cyberpunk side quests walkthrough
The side quests with Brendan in Cyberpunk 2077 reflect the progress of the friendship between Brendan and V. As the story goes on, the game reveals more and more about the uniqueness of Brendan. He is capable of telling jokes and continuing interesting conversations with the customers. He views some great customers as friends, like Theo and V. Moreover, he even offers some free products to his friends, which turns out not to be what the corpo wants.
I Can See Clearly Now
In this side quest, Brendan will ask you to move away the dumpster that’s been blocking this view. The quest is surprisingly short and easy, but not without fun. (Just like all the other quests about Brendan.) Apparently, Brendan, as a vending machine, develops a liking and capability of appreciating the views.
Spray Paint
Next time when you come to Brendan, you will meet Theo talking with it. From the conversation, you can tell that Theo genuinely enjoys Brendan’s company and views it as a friend despite the fact that it’s only a programmed machine. If you stop by another time, you can help Brendan chase away some deliquents who try to paint on Brendan.n
What is surprising is that Brendan reveals that it knows about you and your situation. The ability to obtain and gather information is also one special trait of Brendan. The boss of Brendan certainly doesn’t like this as the computer message will reveal later.

Coin Operated Boy
This time, Theo will be waiting for you at Brendan’s spot. She will ask you to look for Brendan who is taken to the service point for reprogramming. The task will take you to a machine repair shop and you have three options of gaining access to Brendan. You can threaten, bribe, or persuade the shop owner to do so.
However, by the time you get to Brendan, it’s too late. The reprogramming is already in process and Brendan only has time to say its last words about Theo and tell a joke one last time. The computer next to Brendan records the conversation and reasons why Brendan should be reprogrammed.
The email messages next to Brendan explain that the company notices Brendan forming relationships with customers, which is not intended in the programming. Also, Brendan giving goods for free violates the company’s interest as well. To make things more interesting, Jerry Miller, the engineer, adds the note of Brendan knowing the fight between him and his wife. This piece of information echoes the previous Brendan acknowledgment of its knowing V’s dying situation.

What is a S.C.S.M.?
A S.C.S.M. [‘skism] is a Spontaneous Craving Satisfaction Machine, which is a type of vending machines in Cyberpunk 2077. You can purchase some drinks like NiCola from them. Brendan belongs to the category of S.C.S.M., which makes sense why the company needs to revoke it when it starts to offer goods to the customers for free!

Brendan’s last joke 😹
You can choose to have Brendan telling its last joke. The joke is:
Where was Johnny Silverhand when the… khe, khe… when the bomb at Arasaka Tower went off?
All over the place. Literally.

Conclusion
Brendan reminds me of Skippy. They are both machines and algorithms, but both of them outperform their initial design. However, when Corpo’s interest overwhelms other things, Brendan has to be wiped out as it is an “unfair competition in the S.C.S.M. market”. If you return Skippy to Regina, she will wipe out Skippy from the gun as well. It seems like so many touching moments and things that can highlight your day in the Night City tend to go to a tragic end. For me, Brendan is one of the unforgettable parts of Cyberpunk gameplay.
