Preconditions of Cyberpunk the Sun Ending: “Blistering Love” and “Chippin’ In”

“Blistering Love” and “Chippin’ In” are two side jobs that you need to finish as the preconditions to Cyberpunk the sun ending. Because this ending requires Rogue’s help, it is necessary to repair the relationship between Johnny and Rogue prior to this ending.

“Chippin’ In” will let Johnny take control over V’s body and set out on a hunt for Adam Smasher. At the oil field where Johnny’s body was dumped decades ago, you need to persuade Johnny to call Rogue. Detailed information is in this post.

Calling Rogue will unlock “Blistering Love”. In this side job, you will meet up with Rogue at a parking lot to watch movies with her. Johnny will take over your body again and try to have a date with Rogue, even though, in the end, they both realize they cannot go back to the old times anymore.

Finishing both side quests will make the sun ending option available.

Options on the Table: The Hotel Conversation With Hanako

The plot of achieving Cyberpunk the sun ending will take you to the point of no return, meaning that after undertaking the mission “Nocturne Op55N1”, you have to finish the whole story before you can return to your previous open-world gaming in Night City.

“Nocturne Op55N1” is the main job in which you meet with Hanako in a hotel and she will explain her deal to you. In short, Hanako wants you to take down her brother Yorinobu, and in return, she will take you to Mikoshi in Arasaka Tower and have the engram removed.

Your choices in this hotel will only affect some dialogue details. From different options, sometimes you will know more or less about Hanako and her family values. At this point in the game, the choices will not influence the ending later.

Later at the top of the building where Misty leads you to, you get to make the final choice to get into the line leading to Cyberpunk the sun ending, and the temperance ending. Whether you will reach the sun ending or the temperance ending, depending on your final choice in Mikoshi, which will be explained later.

The right choices on top of the building are:

  1. Think you and Rogue should go
  2. Take pseudoendotrizine: I am. Do your thing, Johnny.

What Are the Missions in Cyberpunk the Sun Ending?

There are three missions before reaching the sun ending. These missions are “For Whom the Bell Tolls”, “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, and “Path of Glory”. You will make the final choice in “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door” of whether you want to go into the sun ending or the temperance ending. Let us have a closer look at what happens in each mission!

For Whom the Bell Tolls

In this mission, Johnny will take over your body and try to persuade Rogue to plan and join the operation. As the name of this mission suggests, this mission is about initiating the plan and finding the right motivation for both Rogue and Johnny.

It is a decisive moment for V. Both Rogue and Johnny are on this mission to save V’s life. Moreover, it is also a bell-tolling moment for Rogue and Johnny to revisit their old times and their shared ideals. Two old friends meet each other again in a rare circumstance and have a second chance to fulfill the regrets they had decades ago.

Rogue will lay out the plan for Johnny and pull all the strings she has. At the same time, Johnny needs to persuade Alt to disable Arasaka’s communication satellite. Long story short, Rogue, Johnny, and Weyland will get into Arasaka Tower using an AV, go through the jungle in the building to reach the bottom floor, and connect Johnny to Mikoshi from the access point there.

Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door

Generally speaking, this mission covers most of the parts in Arasaka Tower and Mikoshi.

Rogue, Johnny, and Weyland make their way through the jungle and get down to the bottom of the tower by using the anti-gravity boots. Alt Cunningham will clear the enemies for you after you reach the security room and create a backdoor for her to get into Arasaka’s system.

After the security room, the biggest roadblock for you later will be defeating Adam Smasher. Adam Smasher will kill Rogue right when he gets into the door. However, compared to the devil ending, you will have Weyland to help you distract Smasher in this ending. This will make the process slightly easier.

The end game is to get into Mikoshi after defeating Smasher. You will meet V and Alt again as Johnny, and Alt will break the disappointing news to V and Johnny. V’s body is permanently damaged and ready to take Johnny’s engram as the soul, whereas V’s soul is hard to survive in her own body. It boils down to two choices:

  1. Go into the well: Johnny takes V’s body, and V enters the net with Alt. (The temperance ending)
  2. Go through the bridge: Johnny enters the net with Alt, and V has her body back. (The sun ending)

To have the Cyberpunk sun ending, you need to have Johnny sacrifice himself and go through the bridge.

Path of Glory

“Path of Glory” starts from V waking up in V’s penthouse. After raiding Arasaka Tower and Rogue’s death, V has taken over Afterlife and become the Afterlife legend. If you check V’s computer, you can see the business emails. When you arrive at Afterlife, the people there will call you the boss.

The story ends with V taking care of a high-profile client’s commission in the space. The credits will have your friends calling you and feeling happy for your achievements.

What Happens to Johnny Silverhand?

In Cyberpunk the sun ending, Johnny kills Adam Smasher and relives the moment when he can storm Arasaka Tower again with Rogue. Later, Johnny chooses to go across the bridge and join Alt in the net. This means that Johnny will leave V’s body forever, and he chooses to sacrifice himself for V to have her life back.

What’s more, this ending perfectly fulfills Johnny’s character arc. It not only brings back the glory that belongs to Johnny in his previous life, but also fulfills his past wishes and regrets. He has changed a lot from the bastard who only cares about himself to a friend who shows loyalty and commitment. The ending is V’s path of glory, but also Johnny’s path of glory.

What Happens to Arasaka?

Contrary to the devil ending, where Arasaka restores its power and stability, Cyberpunk the sun ending brings Arasaka to ruin. Alt destroys Mikoshi, which stores all the soul data as Arasaka’s leading project, including Saburo Arasaka’s soul.

With Mikoshi gone, Saburo Arasaka cannot be brought back to life like in the devil ending, and Arasaka takes a huge loss from the previous investment in Mikoshi. The corporation is also sunk into the power struggle. There is no leader who has absolute authority over the corporate decisions.

It is fair to say that Cyberpunk the sun ending is the most satisfying of bringing down the big corporation and making Johnny’s ideal come true.

The Best Ending That Echoes Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

Cyberpunk the sun ending evokes many scenes and moments from the iconic animation, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It is V’s way towards becoming a legend in Night City, what David and Lucy achieve but lose in the end.

V’s Penthouse

V’s penthouse is of a similar structure to David and Lucy’s apartment in the animation. The apartment is a symbol of status and a witness to the past and the present. It is also the highlight of both the animation and the game, marking a period of quiet and successful life before things deteriorate again. From this point onwards, David sacrifices himself in the fight against Adam Smasher, while V’s future fate is fogged with uncertainty, based on what Alt explains in Mikoshi. V’s soul has become the parasite of her own body and her body is already too damaged. But both David and V live up to the motto of the Cyberpunk world, to become a legend of the city.

Journey to Space

V has ended her story in space. The cutscene of V flying in space substantially evokes the final moment in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. Lucy goes to the moon alone and fulfills both her and David’s dreams. In the game, it is Johnny Silverhand who could not make it to witness V’s achievement and leadership. Only V survives to go to space alone.

The ending seems bright but is loomed with layers of uncertainty and sorrow. In Cyberpunk the sun ending, everything seems bright and promising with V earning fame and success. However, with what Alt says about V’s body condition before and V vomiting blood again in the shower room, the ending does not confirm V’s survival in the future. Johnny Silverhand’s death also leaves an irreparable hole in V’s soul. Like what V says in the ending, “Now… now I got nothin’ to lose.” It is not too far-fetched to say that V and Lucy are in the space with similar feelings of loss and sorrow that cannot be dispelled.

FAQs

Is The Sun a good ending in Cyberpunk?

The sun can be viewed as a good ending in Cyberpunk. In this ending, Johnny avenges Adam Smasher and walks into the net with Alt. V lives up to Johnny’s expectation of becoming a legend of Night City and inherits Rogue’s legacy in Afterlife. The only looming uncertainty is that V is no longer in a perfect healthy condition.

Do you keep the apartment after the sun ending?

No. V’s penthouse is only accessible during the sun ending. After you finish the storyline, the game will take you back to the point before the point of no return. You will not have the apartment permanently.

How to get the sun ending?

To get the sun ending, you need to finish the side quests “Chippin’ In” and “Blistering Love” first to repair Johnny and Rogue’s relationship. Then, during the mission “Nocturne Op55N1”, choose to let Johnny take over and get to Mikoshi with Rogue. In “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door”, choose to go across the bridge as Johnny.

Conclusion

Cyberpunk the sun ending is the one that goes exactly as what Johnny and V have planned before. Mikoshi separates Johnny from V’s body, and V has her body back. As V becomes the legend of Night City and Afterlife, Johnny must feel proud of her as well, and happy that Rogue’s legacy can fall into V’s management. If you are a fan of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, you may find this ending satisfying as well.

However, the ending is not a 100% happy ending. The deep bonding between V and Johnny is still there, and the separation and Johnny’s sacrifice take their toll on V. V’s body is also damaged from the engram. All in all, V gets to live on, but alone.
