Chippin’ In Cyberpunk 2077 is a side quest starting with Johnny Silverhand’s wish to take down Adam Smasher. Adam Smasher is a full borg highly equipped with cyber tech and prosthesis. He is appointed as the security head of Arasaka and also works as Yorinobu Arasaka’s bodyguard. In the Cyberpunk world, Adam Smasher is also the final boss in Cyberpunk: Edgerunner, who kills David Martinez at the end. Adam Smasher represents the uncontrollable technological and suppressive force in the Cyberpunk world.
Taking down Adam Smasher is an opportunity for Johnny to deal one hard blow to Arasaka and the late capitalism it represents, as well as a chance to make up for past regrets. As the mission goes on, the quest reveals more and more about Johnny’s relationship with other band members and Johnny’s past. Chippin’ In Cyberpunk 2077 story: hunting down Smasher
Chippin’ In Cyberpunk 2077 consists of two parts with the side quest A Cool Metal Fire in between.

Before A Cool Metal Fire
You can take on the side quest Chippin’ In after the main story Tapeworm. At the end of Tapeworm, Johnny confesses that he’s willing to take the bullet for you but he has one last wish. Heading towards Afterlife will activate the quest Chippin’ In.
Johnny will ask to take control of the body to contact Rogue and hunt down Adam Smasher. This will lead to the side quest A Cool Metal Fire where you let Johnny take control and hunt down people related to Adam Smasher. In the end, Johnny will find clues that lead to a name called Ebunike.
After A Cool Metal Fire
Rogue later will contact you that she has found out information about Ebunike, which is a container ship parked in Night City. This part of the quest leads you to the location of Ebunike, where you can investigate more about Adam Smasher.
There are several containers you can explore on Ebunike.
679275-PN1H Weapon cases
On the ground floor, you can locate a group of weapon cases that are supposed to be with Kang Tao. Adam Smasher abducted this batch of weapons from Kang Tao who has not a clue about this.

Audio log no. 25436546 & Audio log no. 25436547
On the ground floor, there’s an office with two audio tapes. The tapes record the conversation between Adam Smasher and Anthony Gilchrist. Gilchrist works for Militech. Smasher tried to blackmail Gilchrist to work for him by kidnapping a woman named Mallory.
Mallory’s dead body in the shower room
You can find Mallory dead in the shower room on Ebunike. She’s shot dead by hollow point rounds which is Smasher’s signature way of killing. Smasher killed Mallory after 24 hours of waiting for Gilchrist to decide to back out from the deal with Night Corp.

Drug transportation
At Ebunike, you might also notice a batch of plants on the first floor of the containers. This shipment has Totentanz and All Foods as its destination. It’s a type of hallucinatory agent that Maelstroms are operating its shipment and sales. At Totentanz, maelstrom members will take the agents with the music for some elevated experience. All Foods is a meat supplier in Cyberpunk 2077. But in this case, Maelstroms may refer to an All Foods factory that was abandoned by the corporation and is currently controlled by Maelstroms.
Confront Grayson and get Johnny’s gun and car
After exploring all the containers, you can confront Grayson at the other end of the ship. You will take Johnny’s old gun from Grayson and face the option of whether to kill Grayson or not. If you choose not to kill him, Grayson will tell you the location of Johnny’s car, which is in one of the containers. You can put a bullet in his head after you get the location of the car...
Yet in the conversation with Grayson, you and Johnny notice something weird about Rogue. Grayson hints at how Rogue managed to survive a long time after the explosion at the Arasaka building. Johnny will mention this again after the end of another side quest, Blistering Love.
Johnny’s grave and secret ending
At last, the quest ends with driving to the oil field where Arasaka dumped Johnny’s body, according to Grayson. Johnny gets quite upset and sad after seeing that there’s nothing but trash where his body lies. You can script on “JS 2023” to mark his grave.
Mark that the options you choose during the dialogue here decide if you can unlock the following quests, Blistering Love and Holdin’ On.
Players’ high relationship with Johnny will not unlock the secret ending. The conversation options have to be as follows:

To unlock Chippin’ In, you need to finish the main job Tapeworm. In Tapeworm, Johnny expresses his wish of taking down Adam Smasher before he dies (again). Chippin’ In will unlock after that and you need to go to Afterlife to take the job, as this side job mainly deals with Johnny’s wish of hunting down Smasher.
Do you have to spare Grayson to get Johnny’s car?
You need to spare Grayson to unlock the location of Jognny’s car because, after that, you will need to head to the crane to drop the container. However, you can shoot Grayson to death after getting the location.
Can you find Johnny’s body in Chippin in?
After having the conversation with Grayson, you will drive Johnny’s car with Johnny to the Northern Oilfield where Johnny’s body was dumped. However, you can’t see any physical body there and it’s basically a pile of trash and craps at the location.
