Cyberpunk 2077 Skippy: Stats, Options, and Stories of Our Quirky Little Choom 🔫

Everyone loves Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077, and that’s for sure! Who doesn’t like a strangely programmed smart weapon that gives weird comments about your behavior from time to time in the game? Skippy simply makes the game livelier and more fun.

In Cyberpunk 2077, Skippy is a smart pistol that you can pick up from a dead body in a narrow alley at Vista del Rey, Heywood. With two modes you can choose from, Skippy will be opted for either killing or crippling the enemies. There are also a series of stories related to Skippy. This post will lead you through all the things related to Skippy: stats, location, stories, and quotes!🔫

Is Skippy a Good Smart Pistol?

What is a smart weapon?

In Cyberpunk 2077, Skippy is a smart pistol that wins every player’s heart. The game features different smart weapons that have the same core function, auto-aiming the enemies during the shooting, but definitely not during the stealth mode. There are different categories of smart weapons including shotguns, pistols, assault rifles, and SMG (submachine guns).

When you try to aim with smart weapons in Cyberpunk 2077, your aiming lens will show a square shape range within which your smart weapons will aim for you automatically. It’s a very effective and carefree way of wiping off enemies when your location is already exposed or when you are surrounded by gangsters.

What is Skippy?

Skippy is an AI-programmed smart pistol, a variant of the Arasaka HJKE-11 Yukimura. The original Yukimura prototype is also a smart pistol but without the yellow-colored paint and the Skippy AI.

This table includes all the stats about Skippy from Tier 3+ to Tier 5++:

However, when you just acquire Skippy, it would be a Tier 3+ smart pistol and you will need to upgrade it five times till it reaches its maximum stats which is at Tier 5++.

To give you a rough idea of how powerful Skippy is as a smart weapon, it will take about 15 rounds to shoot down a common gang member when it is at Tier 5++, which is about 2-3 seconds. Therefore, in terms of damage, Skippy is not a very powerful weapon.

We can also draw comparisons between Skippy and other smart pistols. Ogou has much higher damage per hit at 57.0 while the attack speed is slightly slower at 3.3. Crimestopper has slightly lower damage per hit at 36.0 but its attack speed is much faster at 10.0. In short, Skippy is around the middle range of the top smart pistols in Cyberpunk considering its stats.

Where to Get Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077?

You can find Skippy in an alley right next to a corpse in the Vista del Rey, Heywood. There is a side quest exclamation mark at the location, requiring you to reach the location and find something. After searching the corpse, you will pull out Skippy, a smart pistol with a little bullet holographic image popping out right next to the gun barrel. At the side of the barrel, there’s the painted name, Skippy.

Acquiring Skippy will trigger a dialogue with it. Skippy will tell you that the system has lost the data of who its owner is. It will also ask you to choose a mode whether it should go Stone Cold Killer mode or Puppy-Loving Pacifist mode.

Later in the game, Skippy will switch to the opposite mode of the mode you choose right now. In regards to that, better choose a mode you don’t want for the long run now so that later Skippy will switch to the opposite mode which you prefer to be the permanent mode.

Which Mode should I Choose First? Stone Cold Killer or Puppy Loving Pacifist?

In Cyberpunk 2077, Skippy will give you the options of whether to opt for the stone-cold killer mode or the puppy-loving pacifist mode from the start. However, Skippy won’t tell you that after applying the mode to killing or incapacitating 50 people, it will automatically and permanently switch to the opposite mode.

The stone-cold killer mode will primarily aim at enemies’ heads with killing them as the priority. Therefore, the stone-cold killer mode can take down the enemies faster with more headshots. If you upgrade Skippy to Tier 5++, that will take about 10 rounds to take down one common gang member. With this damage per hit, you can expect to take down three enemies without changing the magazine.

Puppy-loving pacifist mode will prioritize the limbs and the chunk, which reduces the damage as expected. As this mode does not focus on killing and head shooting, you need about 15 rounds to take down a common gangster. In total, you can take down two enemies without changing the magazine.

In most cases, the stone-cold killer mode carries higher damage and is much better than the puppy-loving pacifist mode. Considering that in the game, there is no point in saving the common NPCs’ lives and there is generally no difference between decapacitating them or killing them, most players will choose the puppy-loving pacifist mode first so later Skippy will switch to the stone-cold killer mode permanently.

This video shows the conversation with Skippy that triggers the switch:

Should I Return Skippy to Regina Jones?

You need to wait a while after switching the mode before Skippy tells you that the system has found out who its owner is. That will start a conversation with Skippy in which you can choose whether to agree to return it or refuse to return it.

It is best for you to choose to agree because if not so, Skippy will only repeatedly call you a bad user from then on and you can’t restore it to its original dialogues anymore. By agreeing to return, you can keep Skippy’s original dialogue and at the same time, ignore this side quest of returning it.

If you want to go on with the side quest Machine Gun and return it to Regina Jones, Regina will reset Skippy to its factory settings and rename it as Daisy. That means the old Skippy personality is wiped out of the gun.

After the side quest Machine Gun, Regina will text you about her returning the AI model to Danish (the techie who invented this AI model) and ask you if you want Skippy back, as a quiet gun without the AI integration.

There are in general three considerations over whether to return it to Regina Jones:

  1. Do you enjoy Skippy’s AI function, including its comments popping out when you’re using it from time to time? If so, then don’t return it.
  2. Do you have Skippy’s puppy-loving pacifist as a permanent mode, or have its dialogue permanently changed to only repeating “bad user”? It’s quite annoying to be locked in these two situations and you can choose to return it in this case.
  3. Do you want the reward money of $7,420? If so, you can return it and Regina will wire you the money right away.

What are the Stories Related to Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077?

Upon returning Skippy to Regina Jones, you can ask Regina where she got Skippy. The story basically goes like this.

Regina has a friend who is quite good at tech called Danish. Danish invented the AI voice system and installed it onto the gun. Later in the card game, Danish lost Skippy to Regina Jones. But Regina didn’t manage to keep Skippy either, as later, Skippy was stolen by some random guy in Night City (maybe the corpse on whom you can find Skippy in the first place).

FAQs

Is Skippy worth keeping in Cyberpunk 2077?

Skippy is not a very powerful one-shot-to-death weapon, especially if it permanently locks you in the pacifist mode. Compared to other smart pistols, both its damage per hit and attack speed are within the middle range. So if you expect something of great damage, that’s probably not gonna be Skippy.

However, some players enjoy Skippy’s company as a talkative little choom. If you also love Skippy’s comments from time to time, it would be best to keep him as Regina Jones will wipe out Skippy’s personality and later its creator will buy back the AI.

How do I permanently keep Skippy in Cyberpunk?

You can keep Skippy permanently in Cyberpunk 2077. To do that, there are three options:

  1. If you only want Skippy as a gun without the AI, return it to Regina Jones and she will give you back the gun without the AI later.
  2. If you want to keep the AI Skippy, you can choose to agree to return Skippy when it tells you that it remembers Regina Jones as its owner, but never do it.
  3. Or you can confront Skippy telling him that you won’t return it, but that will cause Skippy to call you a bad user from then on.

What happens if you say no to Skippy?

Once Skippy notifies you that it has recovered the data and knows that its owner is Regina Jones, it will ask you to return it to the owner. At this point, if you say no to Skippy, the dialogue and comments from Skippy will all turn to shout at you as a “bad user”.

Because of this, it’s highly recommended to say yes to Skippy just to keep the original diverse dialogues, but you can simply ignore the side quest of returning it later.

Conclusion

Skippy is a very unique presence in Cyberpunk 2077. Just like the S.C.S.M. Brendan, they are like the unexpected glitches in the programming system and make the artificial technology more human-like and more fun.

As items serving a function, Skippy is a good smart pistol, at the mid-range among the top smart pistols, and Brendan is also functioning as a great vending machine.

But at some point, their systems are locked and do not serve the best interest of humankind anymore. Skippy is “gonked” as Regina found out that it’s permanently locked in either the stone-cold killer mode or the puppy-loving pacifist mode. Brendan is “malfunctioning” when the maintenance team finds out that it’s been giving drinks to its friends for free and researching private information. They suffer the same fate of being wiped out as they are in conflict the human interests.

Both Skippy and Brendan are fun but sad presence in Cyberpunk 2077. As V enjoys friendship and company, other people take them as malfunctioning machines and algorithms. Unfortunately, it’s the people who regard them as algorithms that have the right to alter their programs.
