The mission has multiple objectives:
- Get the Job: Talk to the Monk Slava in Bylany to undertake the mission of sending a message to the Abbot.
- Deliver the Message & Talk to Gerhard (Optional): Players need to go to the Abbot near Kuttenberg to deliver the message about dragon bones and heresy to Tobias. Tobias wishes that Henry could bring all the bones to Slava to destroy them and end the heresy. Gerhard, Tobias’s son, on the other hand, wants Henry to bring him the bone, and he will reward Henry with some groshen (optional).
- Locate the Dragon Bones: This might sound counterintuitive, but go straight to the site where the bone is located based on this guide. The bones should still be at the site at this point. Try not to talk to Slava or Vashek, as this may cause wasting too much time and losing the dragon bones.
- Bring the Dragon Bones to either Slava or Gerhard: Fight with the commander and the alchemist to get bones. Bring them back to either Slava or Gerhard.

Where Are the Dragon Bones?
The dragon bones are located at the end of a dried-up river in the forest to the southwest of Bylany. There is a clearing with huge rocks on one side at the end of the river. Dragon bones can be dug out on the opposite side of these rocks.
If players are following the river to reach the spot, mind that there is a bandit camp near the river. Engaging with them might slow you down on locating the bones.
Players also need a spade to dig things out.

How to Get to the Bones in Time?
Generally speaking, it seems like a countdown will start after players talk to Tobias and Gerhard. The hint is in the dialogue with Gerhard, who says that he sends out several groups to locate the bones. It would make sense for the countdown of bone-finding to start here, with the hint telling players to be mindful of other competitors.
If players have gone through the normal process of going back to Slava and asking Vashek about the bones’ location, they would know that there are groups of people questioning Vashek about the location already. He has already given out the location to the group sent by Gerhard and the alchemist.

If players ask Vashek after talking to Gerhard and Tobias for a while, even if players set off to the site immediately, the bones will still be taken already. This testifies that the countdown starts with Gerhard and Tobias, not with Vashek.
Therefore, to be on the safe side, the best option is to set off to the site immediately without talking to Slava or Vashek. In that case, Henry can find that the bones are still buried there and proceed with the mission without failing it.

How to Get All Three Bones?
After successfully triggering the cutscene, players can choose how they’d like to proceed with the bones and others. The best option is to get all the bones, so it’d be unnecessary to join either the mercenary’s or the alchemist’s group. Players can simply choose “I’m not joining anybody.” This option starts the fight between the mercenary, the alchemist’s group, and Henry.
Henry needs to keep fighting and hold on till the next dialogue. After fighting for a while, NPCs will start another negotiation:
- If players are confident about defeating all the enemies, they can choose “You’ll die! (Attack)”. Defeating all the enemies grants Henry all three bones.
- If players cannot defeat all of them, choose “Let’s share the bones” for now. Players can take down the commander and the alchemist after sharing the bones and loot the bones from them directly.

Although the second option is not very knightly, it seems to be an easier option compared to fighting multiple enemies. Players can chokehold them or stealth kill them one by one. Some of the enemies had already died in the previous battle, making stealth-kill even easier. The thing is to do it fast, or players may lose track of the alchemist when they are chokeholding the commander.

Should I Give the Bones to Slava or Gerhard?
Giving the bones to Slava can earn players the reputation of a couple of cities and towns nearby, while giving the bones to Gerhard can yield about 270+ groschen. There are several options that players can consider based on what they think is more valuable to them at this stage:
- Give all the bones to Slava: No need to pass any checks. Reputation in Cities and towns like Bylany, Suchdol, Kuttenberg, and Pschitoky increases by 1 – 2 points. Bylany’s reputation increases 5 points.
- Give all the bones to Gerhard: No need to pass any checks. Get 270+ groschen directly.
- Lie to Slava and Gerhard: Need to pass a hard speech check when talking to both Slava and Gerhard. Get both reputation and groschen rewards.
- If Henry only has 1 bone: Players will have to pass the hard speech check to get rewards either from Slava or Gerhard, because there is not enough bone to lie to both. Telling the truth will not bring any rewards.
Players can weigh which reward is more important to them to make the choice. If players are confident to pass the hard speech check and have all the bones, they can also give only a portion to both Slava and Gerhard and get all the rewards.

Conclusion: Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Dragon’s Lair
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 Dragon’s Lair is a rather tricky mission because of the countdown and the choice of how to obtain and deliver the bones. Many players complain that it is unclear when they should expect a countdown and get to the site as soon as possible, ending up with failing the mission and not knowing which save to load. Additionally, the groschen given by Gerhard is not as hefty as he promised in the dialogue. The increased reputation is also not as significant as one might expect.
So, after all things considered, you can decide whether or not you want to load an earlier save for Dragon’s Lair, if you have already missed the bones…
