Sims 4 AI: Sentient Sims & Yamice AI Mods for Storytelling and Inner Voice!

What if AI can narrate your Sim’s story based on the interactions, personalities, relationships, and actions? That will bring the whole gaming experience to the next level! This post discusses and compares two AI mods for The Sims 4 to help you decide which mod works better for your gaming style. Sentient Sims in general is more accessible to non-Chinese players, while Yamice, as its developer Kekell is more active on Rednote, is more accessible to Chinese players. But if you are interested in Yamice mod, with translation tools, it wouldn’t be hard to install and play it either!

The Sims 4 AI Mods: What Can the AI Do?

Sims 4 AI mods are mods that can access the AI models through the users’ API keys and auto-request the AI chat to generate text based on what happened in The Sims 4 game. That means the AI can auto-read the characters’ personalities, major events, moods, and other settings in the game. What the mods can do depends on:

1. The mod design itself: Some mods guide the AI models to read more settings, while others read less. For example, Sentient Sims’ recent updates allow the AI to read the weather in the game.
2. The AI model players are using: Different AI models have different generating styles and abilities. Sentient Sims allows players to choose models that may or may not support WickedWhims, while Yamice lets players manually put in the AI model names.
3. The quality of the prompts: AI mods usually write in default prompts to set a general tone and style for the text generations. However, as players manually change the prompts, add in more lines, and progress in the story, the prompts will get complicated or even corrupted.

All in all, players can adjust the AI mods, the AI models, and the prompts to optimize their AI plug-in experience. The following sections are going to explain how Sentient Sims and Yamice work as examples. These two have a similar setup. Sentient Sims: How to Download and Run the Mod?

The download and setting up of Sentient Sims is pretty no-brainer. Players can download the mod from their homepage (link here!). And then install the downloads and open up the Sentient Sims app.

Players need to set up the AI model info and follow the setup wizard to finish setting up.

Sentient Sims offers clearer guidance on which AI models to choose. Compared to this, Yamice generally just asks players to put in AI info directly. If you are setting up OpenAI, for example, the same API Key can be used in Yamice later, too.

Sentient Sims: Text-Based Story Narration

Sentient Sims mainly have three features: story narration, chat box, and do something.

Story Narration

There will be a box auto narrate the story on the left side of the UI. It is the AI-generated content based on what your Sims have just done, their mood, personalities, and others. The style is like novel writing. AI will grasp information from the game and expand the story based on that.

Chat Box

Players can click on other Sims to start a chat box conversation with them. The Sims will reply to messages in a manner according to their personalities, relationships, and others with the Sims players are controlling.

Do Something

Players can type in the command to have the Sims to do something in the game. The Sims will do things following the instructions. What happened will be noted down and narrated in the story narration box as well.

Yamice Kekell: How to Download and Run the Mod?

Download

Yamice download is a bit trickier. As more non-Chinese people are using Rednote nowadays, players who want to play this can check out Kekell’s profile on Rednote. The download link and password are in Kekell’s fans group chat (only accessible on Rednote app). No permission to join the chat is needed.

Or you can access the download link here, with the password as 1534. (But this is up to change. If this is not working, you still need to go for the group chat because that’s where Kekell updates new info, just like Chinese Discord!) Baiduyundisc is needed for the downloads.

Install

In Yamice folder, there is a user guide called 使用文档. Open it, and put the Chinese instructions into any translation tools to get the gist of it. Generally speaking, what you need to do is:

1. Install the XML Injectors mod to The Sims 4 if you haven’t got one. (Can be easily installed from Curseforge)
2. Extract what you have downloaded from the Baiduyundisc link to a stable location on your PC.
3. Put Yamice.package and Yamice.ts4script in the The Sims 4 Mods folder.
4. Click on Yamice in the Yamice folder to run the program.

Set Up AI Model and Adjust Prompts

This step is very similar to the Sentient Sims setup. You need to:

1. Set Profile to Default.
2. Choose API provider.
3. Put in API Key.
4. Manually put in the name of the model you are using if it is not in the dropdown menu.
5. Click testing the link.
6. Save the settings.
7. Run the game.
8. After running the game, keep Yamice window open. Change all the prompts that suggest Chinese output to the language you prefer. So you can get all the text in the game in your target language.
9. You are good to go! You can adjust the mod further in the game.

Yamice Kekell: Narration, Inner Voice, and Auto-Dialogue

Yamice features more diverse interactions and UI. Generally speaking, players can see:

1. The story narration.
2. The inner voice of the Sims you are controlling.
3. Auto dialogue.
4. Manual dialogue.

The Story Narration

The story narration will auto-pop up as a window and on the notification board. It is like a journal noting down what happened recently to the Sims you are controlling, including activities, interactions, mood, manual dialogues, and auto dialogues generated by AI. You can change the prompts generation details at the Yamice window.

The Inner Voice of the Sims You are Controlling

This is one of the coolest features! AI can generate and show players what their Sims are thinking right now. The inner voice is drafted based on the personality, activities, previous dialogue, Sims relationship, and so on.

For example, if you are having your Sims to date Travis, and ask what Travis’s relationship with Summer is, there is a chance that the innervoice will show up as something like “I care so much about Travis… Just hope he is still single now.”

Players can set up the frequency of the inner voice to high (if you have enough funds with your AI platform!), and it will pop up directly at the notification board.

The best part of this is that if you have a household with multiple Sims. You can switch to control different Sims and request their innervoice. It will display all the dramas and struggles going on in your household!

Auto and Manual Dialogue

Another cool feature is the dialogue. Basically, players can click on another Sims to have their controlled Sims say something to him/her. Then, the Sims will automatically say something back to your Sims.

The dialogue will be noted down by AI, and used in the story narration and inner voice. So, as you can see for Yamice, all three major features are very closely integrated together.

Which Sims 4 AI Mod Should You Try Out?

I’d honestly recommend you trying out both and see which style you prefer and build on that.

Personally, I prefer Yamice because its UI is more immersively built into The Sims 4 interface, and its three features are more closely integrated with one another. The overall experience is near perfect. Just imagine the story you can write and build with The Sims 4 and AI! Even if you don’t want to build a story aggressively, you can still greatly enjoy how AI interprets your Sims’ feelings, relationships, and thoughts.

Sentient Sims, on the other hand, is more narration-based. But its download, installation, and setup widgets are more accessible to non-Chinese speakers. They support AI models to generate with WickedWhims, too. On the downside, the chat and story feel more disconnected from the main game, but this can also be affected by the prompts.
