What Happened Before Cube Escape Theatre?
The theatre scene happening between Robert and Dale was after Laura’s death. The game is connected to several other games in the Rusty Lake series, and players can choose to play through these games first before Cube Escape Theatre to have a better grasp of the story.
Cube Escape Theatre bears connections with Underground Blossom. Underground Blossom takes the players through the journey of how Robert and Laura met each other and how they got together. Robert was not in a good mental state ever since breaking up with Laura, which can be proven in The White Door as well.

Besides Underground Blossom, The White Door, which elaborates on Robert Hills’ stories, has many overlaps with what happened in Cube Escape Theatre. Laura broke up with Robert at the Owl’s Nest cafe, and later, Robert learned about Laura’s suicide from the TV. Laura’s death left Robert in a distraught mental state. The theatre scene was in one of Robert’s dreams, where he drowned himself in alcohol and tried to commit suicide. Dale met Robert in the theatre, and later in the police station as well, and promised to find Laura.
All in all, Cube Escape Theatre is a small chapter in the Rusty Lake universe, compared to other games outside the Cube Escape Collections. It does not include too much storytelling, and players need to play through the longer games like Underground Blossom or The White Door to have a better understanding of the characters’ connections.

What Is the Story of the Theatre?
In Cube Escape Theatre, players will play the role of Dale Vandermeer. Inside the theatre, Dale needs to fulfill the requirements from Robert and watch the shows going on in the theatre, in order to be able to leave the place and ascend to the lake. The beginning of the game explains that it was in 1971, and Dale needs to retrieve his lost memories.
Dale would need to give four drinks to Robert Hills (to unlock all the achievements), who was the man sitting next to the counter. Robert was overtaken by the sorrow of losing Laura, and later on, he tried to commit suicide. Meanwhile, Dale was a witness to what happened to Robert at the bar of the theatre.

Afterwards, on the theatre stage, a man with Mr. Owl’s mask tells Dale that the man’s memory is extracted, and he will turn into a corrupted soul. Robert lost his memory when The White Door facility extracted all his memories about Laura and the lake. Later, he degenerated into a corrupted soul.
Dale, on the other hand, shares a similar experience but is going to go beyond Robert’s fate. At this point, he becomes Robert’s counterpart and has the mission of going back to the lake and getting to the very bottom of the mystery of Rusty Lake. The game ends with Dale entering the elevator and leaving the theatre.

Is Cube Escape Theatre Worth Playing?
In terms of the story, the Theatre can be viewed as an extra plot that fills in the blank of Robert’s dream in The White Door. If players do not want to go through Cube Escape Theatre, they can still have the general idea of the Rusty Lake stories through other games. The White Door explains the encounter between Robert and Dale relatively thorough manner. However, the recurrence of the theatre’s posters in Underground Blossom and The White Door will certainly pique players’ interest in exploring this game as well.
The puzzle design and the environment of the game follow the general styles of other Cube Escape games. Players are required to piece the clues together to progress in the game, and at certain points, players need to play mini-games. In general, the game’s puzzles are of a medium difficulty level. What is special about the Theatre may be its having more dialogues than other Cube Escape games.

There is much fun in collecting the achievements, because, like other Rusty Lake games, the achievements of the games are interconnected. In the Theatre, players can use the clue from Cube Escape Birthday to create the special drink, Rusty Lake G&T. Moreover, Harvey’s favorite song finally has its name in the Theatre, the Bad Egg Symphony. The humor of this name echoes with Laura’s question: “Can I eat Harvey’s egg?”
