How to Enter Construction Mode in Travellers Rest: Quick Building Guide
Expanding and customizing the tavern is an important part of Travellers Rest, but construction works differently from the game’s regular decoration system. While Decoration Mode allows the player to move and place furniture, Construction Mode is used to expand rooms, add floor tiles, change floors and walls, create work areas, and build guest rooms. Here’s a quick guide on how to enter the Construction Mode and build up your tavern!
When Can the Player Start Constructing the Tavern
Before getting down to how to enter Construction Mode in Travellers Rest, it is important to know that the player can only unlock Construction Mode at Reputation Level 7. Reaching this level unlocks the tavern’s rental system, allowing the player to begin creating guest rooms.
Construction Mode is a major progression milestone because it allows changing the physical layout of the tavern, and the guest rooms can significantly increase the tavern’s revenue. Instead of simply adding furniture to existing rooms, the player can expand the tavern, create additional spaces, modify floors and walls, and define areas for different activities.
This makes Reputation Level 7 the point where the tavern begins to become significantly more customizable.

The Construction Table
The main station required for tavern construction is the Construction Table. It provides access to both the table’s material storage and its construction interface.
At Reputation Level 7, the player receives information about the Construction Table from Woody and can purchase the table for 3 Gold and 15 Silver.
One particularly useful feature is that the Construction Table has its own separate inventory, accessible by pressing “E”. Construction materials cannot simply remain in the player’s regular inventory or another storage chest. The player must place the materials inside the Construction Table before they can use the materials for construction.

How to Enter Construction Mode in Travellers Rest
Once the player purchases and places the Construction Table into the world, entering Construction Mode is straightforward.
- First, interact with the Construction Table and open its storage with “E”. Place the needed materials inside the storage.
- Second, enter the building interface with “Q”. The player can choose from several construction options. These include adding or removing floor tiles, changing floor and wall designs, creating Dining and Crafting Zones, and installing doors.
- To pick up furniture directly, press “B” while you are still in Construction Mode. Then the player can move furniture with the cursor.
For example, when expanding a room, the player can select the floor tile option and place additional tiles in the desired direction.
- Dining and Crafting Zones can then be assigned to the appropriate areas.
- Guest rooms can similarly be created by building the required space and placing a Guest Room Door at the entrance.
The construction interface also displays the available stored materials, making it easier to see whether enough resources are available for a particular project.

Construction Mode vs Decoration Mode
It is important to distinguish Construction Mode from Decoration Mode, as the two systems serve different purposes.
- Decoration Mode is primarily concerned with placing furniture and decorative objects inside the existing tavern space.
- Construction Mode, on the other hand, changes the actual structure and layout of the tavern.
This distinction becomes particularly important when expanding the dining area or creating guest rooms. Furniture alone cannot create these spaces. The player must use Construction Mode to add the necessary tiles and define the appropriate zones or entrances. Then use the Decoration Mode to access the player’s inventory and add the needed furniture for the room.
At Reputation Level 7, the player can therefore begin moving beyond simply decorating the original tavern and start designing a larger, more specialized establishment.
