Fields of Mistria Caldarus Guide: Romance, Gifts, Marriage, and Children
Caldarus is one of the most popular romance options in Fields of Mistria. He isn’t simply another villager who happens to live in town. Caldarus is an ancient dragon who has watched over Mistria for centuries, and the player’s relationship with him is closely tied to the game’s main story. This guide covers how to meet Caldarus, his main story quests, his favorite gifts, how to marry him, how to have a child with him, and whether he’s a good marriage choice.
When and Where Do You Meet Caldarus
Caldarus in Fields of Mistria does not appear first in his human form, and the player needs to continue the main story of digging through the mine to make him a romanceable character. There are several stages of the player’s relationship with Caldarus:
- Caldarus in the form of a statue and appears in the player’s dream: After arriving at your farm, you’ll discover a broken statue of Caldarus at the upper right corner of your farm. Repairing the statue awakens the ancient dragon and establishes a pact between Caldarus and the player. Caldarus then begins communicating with you through the statue. He will also request that the player contribute essence at the statue, which is an in-game mechanism to help players unlock perks through daily activities.
- Caldarus takes his human form in The Deep Woods: Digging down the mine until reaching Level 100 is actually the main story quest in Fields of Mistria. Upon finishing the quest “Breaking the Fire Seal”, Caldarus will take the human form to protect the player, and afterwards rest in The Deep Woods. The player’s relationship with Caldarus from this point on will start directly from 6 hearts.

What Does Caldarus Like and Love as Gifts
Caldarus has a particularly interesting gift list because many of his favorite gifts are cooked dishes. There is also an important restriction: you cannot give Caldarus gifts until after completing “Breaking The Fire Seal.” Only after completing this quest, Caldarus becomes a single romanceable character in the relationship panel.
A trick to know his gift preference is to complete all the mine exploration and break the final seal at Level 100. Because after finishing all the mine main quests, both Seridia (The Dragon Priestess)and Caldarus will be free to meet the townsfolk. Only by then can the player know his gift preferences from Elsie’s gossip.
Most of the dishes that Caldarus loves and likes are 4 – 5 star dishes. It would be easier for the player to obtain them through:
- Finish the main story quest of upgrading the inn and purchase directly from the inn.
- Check Balor’s Wagon regularly.
- Unlock the perks “Living off the Land”, “A Way to the Heart”, “Likable Cooking”, “Lovable Cooking”, “Dungeon Delicacies” to get dish rewards from daily activities.

How to Romance Caldarus: 8-Heart Event, Marriage, and Childbirth
Caldarus’ romancing stages are a bit different from other characters because his story is deeply related to the main story quests from the mine. The stages of romancing Caldarus are as follows:
- After “Breaking The Fire Seal”: The player can visit Caldarus in The Deep Woods and give him gifts.
- 8-Heart Event: Caldarus will send the player a letter after the player reaches 8 hearts with him. The romance only continues if the player chooses to date him.
- Marriage After “Breaking The Final Seal”: There are several things that the player should know about the wedding with Caldarus.
- The player can only plan the wedding with Caldarus after completing the entire mine quests and reaching 10 hearts with him.
- The player also needs to forge the Engagement Ring for the proposal. Elsie will teach the player the recipe after reaching 10 hearts with any character.
- Prior to the wedding day, the player can talk to Caldarus every day to decide the wedding flowers, decor, dishes, and dessert.
- Have a Child with Caldarus: Two weeks after the marriage, the Great Bird will arrive in the player’s dream and give the player a feather to discuss whether to have a child with Caldarus. If the player decides to have a child, the childbirth happens in another two weeks.

Is Caldarus a Good Wedding Choice
If you’re choosing a spouse based purely on convenience, Caldarus may be the most straightforward choice. The biggest advantage is that his romance is deeply connected to the main story. And that saves the player a lot of trouble sending gifts and chatting to raise his heart level to 6, compared to romancing other NPCs.
Another advantage is that the marriage mechanism is very much connected to the mine quests. The Engagement Ring requires a Dragon-Forged Core. Without reaching at least level 90 in the mine, the player technically cannot marry any NPCs at all. So regardless of whether the player wants to romance Caldarus or not, they will need to progress the main story quests in the mine.
Storywise, Caldarus is different. The romantic relationship with Caldarus has a clear progression and many unexpected twists and turns. The relationship begins with a mysterious dragon statue on the farm. Then it turns out that he’s an ancient guardian and needs the player’s help to restore his power. The player finally uncovers his history and connection to Seridia after breaking the final seal. The story plots are intriguing, and how he adapts to human form is also interesting to see.
After the marriage, Caldarus will take care of the child and give the player gifts such as dishes and foreagables from time to time. He does not really help with the farm work, and he will be going to other places on the map just like other NPCs. Whenever there is a dialogue hint, it means the player can talk to him and unlock new dialogues.
