Graveyard Keeper 2 Special Wood: Location, Prerequisite Quests, and Best Uses

In Graveyard Keeper 2, the player needs the Special Wood to rebuild the Church Organ, craft advanced construction materials, repair Town buildings, and complete several character quests. Unlike ordinary lumber, Special Wood cannot be gathered by cutting down trees and the color of it looks darker. This guide explains the location, prerequisite quests leading up to the Special Wood, and how much Special Wood the player needs to complete the game.

Where to Get Special Wood in Graveyard Keeper 2

The only merchant who sells Special Wood in Graveyard Keeper 2 is Harold, who lives in the Stilt Houses in the Flooded Quarter, across the western lake.

Harold’s location remains inaccessible until the player completes the combat encounter Battle at the Lake. Winning this battle opens the route to the Stilt Houses and advances the questline connected to rebuilding the Church Organ.

However, defeating the enemies does not immediately unlock Special Wood purchases. The player must also complete Harold’s quest before his stock becomes available.

Similar to Steel Ingots, the player cannot collect or craft Special Wood. They can only be purchased through Harold.

Quests Leading Up to Unlocking Harold’s Location

The player reaches Harold through Agatha and Herbert’s questlines.

  1. First, progress through Agatha’s Church-related quests until she asks for help rebuilding the Church Organ. She directs the player toward the woodcarvers in the Stilt Houses, who can provide the unusual timber required for the project.
  2. The route passes through an infected district occupied by hostile forces. Herbert helps organise the military operation needed to reach the western lake.
  3. The player must then complete Battle at the Lake, which is part of the “Still Standing on Stilts” questline. After winning, the guards at the Stilt Houses lower the drawbridge, allowing the player to cross into the area.

Speak with the woodcarvers and follow the dialogue until they direct the player to their master, Harold. The Stilted Houses area is only available through Milestones, similar to the Royal Foundry.

How to Complete Harold’s Quest

After reaching Harold, the player must complete his “Organic Music” quest before purchasing Special Wood.

Harold claims that his wood-catching machine needs repairs before he can supply the timber. To help him, the player must provide the following materials:

  • 2 Building Kit I
  • 1 Iron Kit II

While the player can make Building Kit I on their own, Iron Kit II can only be forged through the zombie automation factory, using the Smithy II station. If the player has already built up the automation workflow, it is not difficult to produce the required materials. After submission, the player can then buy Special Wood directly through conversation.

What Is Special Wood Used For?

Special Wood has several uses, but its primary value comes from expanding the town population.

  1. Repairing the Town: As Town restoration progresses, the player must repair buildings and attract more population for more parishioners and to complete Linda’s quest of attracting 100 townspeople. The game specifically asks for Special Wood to produce Building Kit II, Special Wood Kit II, and Furniture Kit II.
  2. Quest Requirement: Later quests require the player to unlock Special Wood purchasing, such as building the Church Organ and crafting prosthetic arms for Jack.

The player may notice that the upgrade to Special Wood and Steel is more like a progress and quest requirement. Special Wood is not exactly a material that can bring further stat improvements. Compared to Steel and Steel-related crafting, the gameplay diversification related to Special Wood is even more limited. Therefore, all that the player needs is just enough Special Wood to expand population to 100+ and a couple more to finish up the remaining quests.
