How to Trigger Sultan’s Game Riel’s Storyline

There are two main ways to meet Sultan’s Game Riel, and both involve the slave market.

Method 1: Save Riel Through Nabhani Before the Slave Market Is Burnt Down

This route requires the player to be actively pursuing Nabhani’s storyline:

1. Break a Carnality card or an Extravagance card at House of Delights: Use any Carnality card or Extravagance card except the gold-tier ones.
2. An Interesting Incident: Send either Maggie or Arzu to talk to Nabhani.
3. Unreliable Ally: Place an Extravagance Card.
4. Exhibition of Flesh: Choose to save the barbarian slave – this is Riel. Use either 3 or 6 coins to purchase her.

Note: Purchasing either of the other two slaves (the “delicate slave” or the “craftsman slave”) will permanently close Riel’s storyline.

Method 2: Save Riel After the Slave Market Is Burnt Down

1. Midnight Visitor: If the player does not purchase any slave from Nabhani’s storyline, after approximately 30 days, the “Midnight Visitor” event will trigger. Riel, having burned down the slave market, arrives at the player’s home wounded. Help her with a Healing Herb, Water of Life, or coins to begin her storyline. This method means the player cannot access Nabhani’s route through the slave market.

Mud Crowd (First Army)

After saving Riel, the “Gang Rivalry” event triggers. Riel is fighting the Jackals for control of the streets.

1. Gang Rivalry: Help Riel win the fight. The player needs Combat – Jackal’s Combat ≥ 2. To achieve this, put in coins, an Intelligence Card, or send a follower to assist. Winning unlocks Riel’s Gang and gives the player the Mud Crowd army in the gang. This is the first of the six troops.

Alley Jackals (Second Army)

Once Riel has established her gang and the Guesthouse is built, she will want to hunt down the remaining Jackals.

1. Hunting the Jackals: Send a follower to help Riel pass the check Combat – Jackal’s Combat ≥ 5. Also put in 5 coins to recruit the Jackals. Success adds the Alley Jackals army to the player’s forces.

Gun Maidens (Third Army)

Riel has business at the House of Delights and needs help getting inside.

1. To the House of Delights!: Pay 20 coins to hire the Gun Maidens directly. Alternatively, send Nabhani or Arzu to help Riel infiltrate the House.
2. The Great Sister Heist (If players do not pay 20 coins):
   • Using an Extravagance or Carnality card triggers “I, Freeloader” event.
   • Using a Conquest or Bloodshed card: The player needs to pass the check of Combat & Physique ≥ 8 to recruit Gun Maidens.
   • Not using any Sultan’s card: The player needs to pass the check of Combat & Stealth ≥ 5. Success adds the Gun Maidens to the army roster.
3. I, Freeloader: The players can obtain Gun Maidens no matter what the outcome of this event is. Solving this proactively results in fewer penalties.

Blade Winds, Soul Hunters, and Paper Shredders (Armies Four, Five, and Six)

This is where the bulk of Riel’s military power comes from. After the House of Delights events, Riel will want to hunt down the slave traders who have been terrorizing the city. To trigger this series of events, the player needs to upgrade the Guesthouse to level three, and Gun Maidens needs to be in Riel’s gang.

1. Hunting the Slave Hunters: Send Nabhani or 20 coins to pass the initial check. Other followers need to pass Sociability & Stealth ≥ 3 to proceed.
2. The Naked Tea Party: Send Arzu and three other followers. Passing all checks gives the player two clues about the slave hunters and one piece of evidence on the vizier’s crimes. Each character must pass a separate check :
   • Arzu must pass Charisma & Sociability – Enemy’s Sociability & Wisdom ≥ 3.
   • In the second round, the player must pass Stealth & Wisdom ≥ 3.
   • In the third round, the player must pass Stealth & Combat ≥ 5.
   • In the fourth round, the player must pass Stealth & Sociability ≥ 3.
3. Full Confession: Send a follower to interrogate the captured slave hunter to get Slave Hunter Clue III. If the player misses any clues from The Naked Tea Party, this event will provide the rest of the clues.
4. Drag the Three Slave Hunter Clues to Methinks One by One: Place each Slave Hunter Clue into Methinks one at a time. Each clue triggers the “Hunter’s Remnants” event once. Pass the Combat & Physique ≥ 5 check each time to unlock three separate armies: Blade Winds, Soul Hunters, and Paper Shredders.

Other Benefits from Riel’s Gang

Riel’s gang members are not just for fighting – they provide passive benefits to the player’s party. The gang troops can provide trainings to followers, giving them attribute bonuses:
