Fields of Mistria Recipe Guide: How to Get Recipes, Cook Food, and Make the Most of Every Dish

Cooking is one of the most useful life skills in Fields of Mistria. While it may seem like a simple way to restore Health and Stamina, recipes actually play a much larger role in the game. Cooked dishes are used for quests, make excellent gifts for villagers, and can be fed to farm animals. And as you start playing the game, you may wonder how to make certain dishes such as noodles and hot chocolate to complete quests. This guide explains where to find recipes, how cooking works, and why you should invest time in mastering the Cooking skill.

Where to Get Recipes in Fields of Mistria

Most recipes in Fields of Mistria must be collected as Recipe Scrolls before you can cook them. There are several ways to obtain new recipes.

  1. Buy Recipes from Shops: The easiest method is purchasing recipe scrolls from shops around Mistria. The Sleeping Dragon Inn regularly stocks and refreshes meal recipes. Darcy’s Saturday Market Stall sells drinks and desserts. Both shops are worth checking in from time to time for unlocking new recipes.
  2. Receive Recipes in the Mail: One feature many new players overlook is the mailbox. Shipping certain crops and ingredients for the first time can unlock recipe scrolls that arrive by mail the following day. This rewards players for experimenting with different crops instead of selling only their usual harvests.
  3. Complete Quests: Some recipes are also awarded through story progression or special quests. Helping the townsfolk, restoring buildings, or completing important requests can unlock dishes that cannot be purchased immediately.

How to Cook

The cooking system in Fields of Mistria may be confusing when you are trying it out for the first time. Recipes have a cook station level and cooking level. Players need to meet both level requirements to cook the recipe.

Once you’ve learned a recipe, you’ll need access to a kitchen before you can prepare it. Fortunately, there are multiple ways to start cooking.

  1. Buy Your Own Kitchen: Players can purchase kitchens from the Carpenter. There are several kitchen tiers, with higher-level kitchens allowing you to cook more advanced recipes that require greater Cooking skill. Having your own kitchen is the most convenient option since you can cook whenever you return to your farm. But lacking funds is very common when the player starts the game, so this may not be the optimal choice when starting out.
  2. Use the Sleeping Dragon Inn Kitchen: If you’re still early in the game and haven’t purchased a kitchen yet, don’t worry. The Sleeping Dragon Inn includes a shared kitchen that every player can use for free, similar to the shared forge and shared crafting table.
  • Fields of Mistria Recipes Shared Kitchen is in the upper-left corner. The player can take one bowl of soup for free from the Inn every day.
  • Fields of Mistria Recipes The player can buy the kitchen at the Carpenter's

How to Make Use of Recipes and Cooking

Cooking isn’t just another collection system. Recipes provide several important benefits throughout your adventure.

  1. Complete Quests: Quests are important sources of funds, renown points, and building relationships with the NPCs. Many quests require specific cooked dishes. Villagers frequently request meals through the Request Board.
  2. Restore Health and Stamina: Especially for mining, the player needs to dig through at least 5 levels in one day to activate the elevator, which is usually not achievable without food, magic spells, or efficient tools. Before leveling up the tools and unlocking magic spells, cooking is the best option for Health and Stamina restoration. The game does not allow the player to eat many raw foods, and raw ingredients, even when edible, only restore a small amount of Health and Stamina.
  3. Give Food as Gifts: Many villagers appreciate home-cooked meals, and meals take up a significant portion of the things they like or love.
  4. Feed Farm Animals: This might look surprising, but one lesser-known feature is that cooked dishes can eventually be fed to livestock, as suggested by Hayden.
  • Meals make up a substantial portion of liked and loved things.
  • Meals can be fed to farm animals.
  • Meals restore Health and Stamina.
