Fields of Mistria Breath of Flame: Where to Find and How to Use It

Breath of Flame is a red flower growing deep within the mines in Fields of Mistria. Unlike many of the game’s regular forageables, Breath of Flame grows in the Lava Caves, making it a resource you’ll only encounter after reaching the later mine floors. Here’s everything you need to know about finding and using Breath of Flame.

Where to Find Breath of Flame

Breath of Flame in Fields of Mistria is in the Lava Caves on mine floors 61–79. It can appear throughout the year (similar to other forageables in the mine), so you don’t have to wait for a particular season to search for it.

The Lava Caves are the fourth major mining area, meaning you’ll need to make considerable progress through the mines (The Upper Mines, The Tide Caverns, and The Deep Earth) before Breath of Flame becomes available.

For the player who does not want to go through the trouble of looking for it, using item spawner mod is always an option.

How to Farm Breath of Flame

If you’re specifically looking for Breath of Flame, don’t feel like you have to clear the entire mine every time. Just like searching for any resources in the mine, all the player has to do is travel among floors efficiently to check if that floor has spawned Breath of Flame. To explore the mine efficiently, the player can:

  1. Walk through the whole floor first to check if there is Breath of Flame.
  2. Break down the nearby, easy-to-break rocks to spawn the ladder to the next floor.
  3. If your Stamina has run out for breaking more rocks, killing monsters does not cost Stamina, and there is still a chance to spawn the ladder upon their deaths.

What Are the Uses of Breath of Flame

There are several reasons to keep Breath of Flame in your storage.

  1. Progress Above the Lava Cave: Most notably, the story quest “Breaking the Ruins Seal” asks for Breath of Flame. After the Priestess forged the shadow version of the player, the player, as usual, needs four items to unlock the gate to the next floor. Breath of Flame is one of the needed items.
  2. Other Quest Requirements: Villagers in Fields of Mistria often post requests on the board asking for a wide variety of items in the game.
  3. Donate It to the Museum: Breath of Flame is part of the Lava Caves collection, and the player can donate it to the Mistria Museum to improve the Town Rank.
  4. Crafting: Breath of Flame is also used as a Woodcrafting material. One example is the Large Water Sprite Statue, which can use three Breath of Flame as one of its possible material requirements. The statue is part of the game’s late-game farm automation system and can automatically water crops within its range when powered with an Essence Stone. This crafting is actually functional, not a decorative item like most of the early-game craftable items…
  5. Give It as a Gift: Breath of Flame is also a useful friendship item. Celine loves Breath of Flame, while Josephine and Louis like it.
  • Break the ruins seal
  • Give Breath of Flame as a gift
  • Donate it to the museum

Should You Sell Breath of Flame in Fields of Mistria

While 45 Tesserae isn’t a bad selling price, selling every Breath of Flame you find isn’t recommended. A good approach is to keep your first few copies:

  1. First copy → Open up the seal
  2. Next copies → Museum
  3. Extra copies → Crafting and gifts
  4. Large surplus → Sell

This way, you won’t have to return to floors 61–79 because you sold an item you suddenly need.
