Fields of Mistria Coop Guide: How to Build, Upgrade, Breed Small Animals, and Make a Profit

Raising animals is one of the most relaxing things to do in Fields of Mistria. While mining provides more income in the early game, the player can use the mining profit to gradually build up the farm and ranching, for those to become a reliable source of long-term profit. The Coop is where you’ll raise smaller farm animals, allowing you to collect ingredients used for cooking, selling, and requests. This guide covers everything you need to know about building and upgrading a Coop, caring for your animals, breeding them, and deciding whether ranching is worth the investment.

How to Build a Coop in Fields of Mistria

You’ll unlock the ability to build a coop in Fields of Mistria early in your farming journey. To construct one:

• Visit the Carpenter’s Shop and buy the Coop Blueprint. The Tesserae differ depending on the size of the coop you are buying.
• Then, the player needs to place the blueprint on the farm and collect stones and woods to the collection box to finish building the coop.

Before building, choose a location with enough open space around it. Animals need room to wander outdoors during the day, so leaving extra space beside the coop makes daily management much easier.

Medium- and large-sized coops will only unlock after reaching ranching level 20 and level 40. Technically, the player can buy as many coops and barns as they want. The player only needs to revisit the Carpenter’s Shop and purchase more blueprints.

How Many Animals Can Fit Into the Coop & How to Expand

Different-sized coops can accommodate different amounts of small animals:

• Small size: 4 small animals
• Medium size: 8 small animals
• Large size: 12 small animals

The number of feed troughs and incubators increases as well for larger coops.

The game does not design a direct upgrade button for the player to expand the existing coop. In order to expand the coop, the player needs to buy a larger size coop blueprint and place the new coop on the farm. Using the animal tab can reassign the small animals in the old coop to the new coop. Then the player can choose if they want to destroy the old coop or just keep it there. All in all, the only way to expand is to buy a larger blueprint.

What Animals Can You Raise in the Coop of Fields of Mistria

The coop houses small livestock rather than large farm animals. Depending on your progression and available livestock, you can raise:

• Chickens
• Ducks
• Rabbits
• Capybaras

As the player progresses through the main story quest, additional coop animals become available after upgrading Hayden’s barn. Similarly, upgrading the General Store will unlock more types of seeds as well.

How to Buy Coop Animals

Once your coop is finished, you can begin purchasing livestock. Visit the Hayden’s ranch to browse the available animals. Each animal costs Tesserae, and some species only become available after progressing further into the game.

Before purchasing too many animals, make sure you have enough daily resources to care for them properly. Healthy, well-fed animals are much more productive than neglected ones. For the early game period, the player can use the sword to cut down the grass on the farm, and that will give the player feed for small and large animals.

Daily Animal Care

Looking after your coop animals only takes a few minutes each day, but consistent care is essential if you want the best products.

Call Animals Outside	Each morning, you can use the bell on the outside wall of the coop to let your animals leave the coop. Once outside, they’ll wander around the farm to look for food themselves. Allowing animals outdoors not only makes them happy, but also saves food supplies for the player.
Send Animals Back Inside	At the end of the day, use the bell to return your animals safely to the coop. There is no small side door for the animals to return automatically. Every day, the player needs to manually send them back.
Pet Your Animals	Every animal can be petted once per day. Petting increases affection. Animals with higher affection generally produce better-quality products and contribute more consistently to your farm. And they can only breed once the player has two hearts of affection level with them.
Hand Feed Your Animals	Hand feeding extra food can help the player increase the relationship faster. How to Breed Coop Animals

Breeding allows you to steadily expand your livestock and unlock more different animal colors for better selling prices.

Breeding offers several advantages:

• Increase your herd without buying additional animals.
• Discover new color variations.
• Complete animal collections.
• Improve your farm’s long-term profitability because animals of rarer colors can be sold for a higher price.

To breed coop animals:

• The player needs to reach two-hearts bonding with both of the animals.
• The player needs to buy the heart-shaped treats from Hayden’s shop and feed them to both of the animals.

Is Building a Coop Profitable

For most players, the answer is yes, but only after the player unlocks rarer species and colors, and reaches high-level bondings with the animals.

Coop animals produce resources on a regular daily basis, allowing you to earn money without waiting for seasonal crops. The higher the bonding levels are, the more likely the animals will produce valuable items.
